Apis MCP: compare APIs from the APIs.io catalog in your AI app

Find the right API for a job by asking Claude: the Apis MCP server searches the APIs.io catalog, compares APIs and providers, lets you rate them and manages a listing you own. ContextGate connects it to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, and you can switch off listing edits so research never touches your listing.

Put the APIs.io catalog in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

  1. 1Click Connect APIs.io free and sign in with your APIs.io account.
  2. 2All tools are on after you connect. Searching and comparing are safe to leave on; if you own a listing and don't want your AI app rating APIs or editing that listing, switch off those tools.
  3. 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
  4. 4Ask Claude to compare APIs in the APIs.io catalog that send SMS, then open Activity to see the search.

API research from a chat

  • Discover APIs by what you want to accomplish.
  • Compare APIs and providers side by side.
  • Rate an API you've used.
  • Manage the APIs.io listing for an API you own.

Separating research from listing changes

  • Switch off the tools that rate or edit listings and your AI app can only search and compare.
  • A policy can warn before a change to your listing goes through.
  • Activity records each search and each listing change.

What you get with APIs.io and ContextGate

  • Your AI apps can use APIs.ioClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach APIs.io through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
  • You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any APIs.io tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
  • Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.

ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.

APIs.io tools

APIs.io's own MCP server shows its tools once you sign in. When you connect it, they are listed and synced in your workspace.
