Appwrite MCP: build and deploy your backend from a chat
Build and deploy an Appwrite backend from your editor: auth, Postgres, MySQL and vector databases, storage, functions, hosting and CDN. Appwrite's own MCP server reaches Claude Code, Cursor, Claude and ChatGPT through ContextGate, where a policy can warn or block before a deploy goes out.
- Ready to connect
- Free
Set up Appwrite in Cursor, Claude Code or ChatGPT
- 1Click Connect Appwrite free and sign in with your Appwrite account.
- 2Every tool is on once you connect, and the list appears then. Reading your project is low risk, but deploying functions or sites and changing databases are not, so switch those tools off if your AI app shouldn't ship changes.
- 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
- 4Ask Claude Code to add a storage bucket to your Appwrite project, then open Activity to see the call.

- Create Postgres, MySQL or vector databases.
- Add storage and deploy functions.

Guardrails before anything ships
- Switch off the tools that deploy or change databases, and keep the ones that read your project.
- A policy can warn or block before a deploy or database change goes through.
- Activity keeps a record of every change your AI app made to your Appwrite project.
What you get with Appwrite and ContextGate
- Your AI apps can use AppwriteClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach Appwrite through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
- You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any Appwrite tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
- Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.
ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
