Basecamp MCP: projects, to-dos and Campfire in your AI app
Basecamp's official MCP server lets Claude or ChatGPT read and work in your projects: to-dos, cards, messages, docs, schedules and Campfire, with the same access you already have. Catch up on a long thread or add a to-do without leaving the chat. ContextGate connects it to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor and keeps a record of every update your AI app posts.

Getting Basecamp into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor
- 1Click Connect Basecamp free and sign in with your Basecamp account.
- 2Every tool is on once you connect, and the full list appears then. If your AI app should read projects but not speak for you, switch off the tools that post messages, add to-dos or write to Campfire.
- 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
- 4Ask your AI app what changed in one of your Basecamp projects this week, then open Activity to see which calls it made.
Catch up and get things done in Basecamp
- Get a summary of a long message thread instead of scrolling through it.
- Ask what's going on across your projects, including to-dos, cards and schedules.
- Add a to-do or post an update to a project from the chat you're already in.
- Look things up in project docs and Campfire.
The tool list appears after you connect. Basecamp gives your AI app the same access your account already has.
Your say over what gets posted
- Switch off posting tools and your AI app can read Basecamp but can't add to-dos or messages.
- Policies check every call, so a password pasted into a message can be blocked before it lands in Campfire.
- Activity records each read and each post, so you can see what your AI app did in which project.
What you get with Basecamp and ContextGate
- Your AI apps can use BasecampClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach Basecamp through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
- You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any Basecamp tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
- Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.
ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
Basecamp tools
Basecamp's own MCP server shows its tools once you sign in. When you connect it, they are listed and synced in your workspace.
