Bitly MCP: short links and QR codes from your AI app
Shorten a link, make a QR code or see how a campaign link performed, all from a chat. Bitly's MCP server works across your Bitly account, so your AI app makes the Bitly API calls for you. ContextGate connects it to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor and lets you switch off link deletion while keeping shortening and click stats.

Set up Bitly in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor
- 1Click Connect Bitly free and sign in to Bitly.
- 2Shortening links and reading stats change little; deleting a Bitlink is permanent. Switch off deletion, and any tool that edits a link's metadata or archive state, if you only want your AI app creating and reading links.
- 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
- 4Ask your AI app to shorten the landing page URL for this week's newsletter, then find the new Bitlink's call in Activity.
Link work you can ask for
- Shorten a long URL into a Bitlink in the right group.
- Expand a Bitlink to see where it points now and where it pointed before.
- Break down clicks by country, city, device or referrer, where your Bitly plan includes analytics.
- Check your monthly quotas before creating a batch of links.
- Generate QR codes and track how your links perform.
Links stay under your control
- Switch off Bitlink deletion; it's hidden from your AI app and refused if called.
- Use a policy to warn before your AI app changes a link's title, tags or archive state.
- Activity records every link your AI apps create, read or change.
What you get with Bitly and ContextGate
- Your AI apps can use BitlyClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach Bitly through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
- You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any Bitly tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
- Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.
ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
