Coinbase MCP: portfolios, orders and transfers in your AI app

Coinbase's own MCP server covers portfolios, accounts, orders, trades and transfers, so your AI app can answer questions about your crypto holdings and activity. ContextGate connects it to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor with a Coinbase sign-in, and anything that places an order or moves funds can be switched off or put behind a policy.

Connect Coinbase to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

  1. 1Click Connect Coinbase free and sign in with your Coinbase account.
  2. 2Every tool is on once you connect, and the list appears then. Keep the portfolio and account lookups; switch off the tools for orders, trades and transfers unless you want an AI app able to move crypto.
  3. 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
  4. 4Ask your AI app for a summary of your Coinbase portfolios and recent trades, then open Activity to see the calls.

Coinbase questions for Claude or ChatGPT

  • Check your portfolios and the accounts in each.
  • Review your orders and trades.
  • Look up transfers in and out of your accounts.
  • List your wallets through ContextGate's app connector if you connect that way.

Keep crypto movements in human hands

  • Switch off order, trade and transfer tools, and a request to use one is refused.
  • If you leave those tools on, add a policy that warns or blocks before an order or transfer goes through.
  • Activity records every Coinbase call, so each lookup and each order is on record.
