TaxAct MCP: 2025 tax answers inside Claude and ChatGPT
Ask what box 12 on a W-2 means, get a rough 2025 refund estimate or build a list of documents to gather before filing, all answered from TaxAct's tax-year 2025 knowledge base. TaxAct's MCP server is public; ContextGate connects its eight tools to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, and a policy can hide personal details before a tax question leaves your AI app.

Add TaxAct's tax tools to your AI app
- 1Click Connect TaxAct free. There's no sign-in, so its tools are ready at once.
- 2All eight tools start on. Most simply answer questions, but `connect_with_expert` points people to Xpert Assist, a TaxAct product bought separately; switch it off if your AI app should stick to self-service answers.
- 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
- 4Ask your AI app which documents you'll need if you freelanced and changed jobs in 2025, then open Activity to see the `tax_document_checklist` call.
Tax prep questions TaxAct can answer in a chat
- Get a rough federal refund or amount-owed estimate from basic inputs with `estimate_taxes`, using 2025 brackets and the standard deduction.
- Have `explain_tax_document` walk through a 1099 box by box and say where each figure goes in TaxAct.
- Check the 2025 filing deadline, the extension deadline and estimated payment dates with `tax_deadlines`.
- See an itemized price breakdown for filing with TaxAct before you start.
- Find where in the TaxAct interview to enter a charitable contribution or a 1099-R.
Keep tax conversations contained
- Switch off `estimate_taxes` or any other TaxAct tool and your AI app stops seeing it; calls to it are refused.
- Tax questions tend to carry names, Social Security numbers and income. A workspace policy can hide that personal data before the call reaches TaxAct.
- Activity records each TaxAct call, so you can review what was asked and which tool answered.
What you get with TaxAct and ContextGate
- Your AI apps can use TaxActClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach TaxAct through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
- You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any TaxAct tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
- Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.
ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
