Algolia MCP: work on your search indices from an AI app
Debug why a record ranks where it does, inspect index settings or copy rules between indices, all from Claude or Cursor. Algolia's MCP server connects your AI app to your Algolia account with user-scoped access for internal work. ContextGate connects it and lets you switch off the tools that clear or delete an index.

Set up Algolia for Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor
- 1Click Connect Algolia free and sign in to Algolia.
- 2Several Algolia tools can wipe data: deleting an index, clearing all records or clearing all rules. Switch those off and keep the read and debugging tools.
- 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
- 4Ask Cursor why a product ranks low for a query in your Algolia index, then open Activity to see the lookups it made.
Index work you can hand to Claude or Cursor
- Check an index exists, read its settings and fetch records by ID.
- Find where an object ranks in a result set to debug relevance.
- Copy an index, its rules or its settings to another index, or export rules as a backup.
- Set up an A/B test between two variants of an index configuration.
- Send click and conversion events for items your users chose.
Protect your production indices
- Switch off delete index, clear records and clear rules so no AI app can wipe an index.
- Set a policy to warn or block before a copy or A/B test changes live search.
- Activity records every Algolia call, so a settings change can be traced back to the AI app that made it.
What you get with Algolia and ContextGate
- Your AI apps can use AlgoliaClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach Algolia through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
- You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any Algolia tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
- Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.
ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
