Remote Desktop Commander MCP: files and terminal from any AI app

Remote Desktop Commander lets your AI app use the files, terminal and processes on your own computers, from wherever the app runs. That reaches real machines, so the controls count: ContextGate connects it to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, lets you switch off terminal or process tools you don't want used, and records every call.

Reach your computers from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

  1. 1Click Connect Remote Desktop Commander free and sign in with your Desktop Commander account.
  2. 2Every tool is on when you connect, including those that run terminal commands and manage processes. Switch off what you don't want an AI app doing on your machines, for example keeping file tools and switching off terminal and process tools.
  3. 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
  4. 4Ask your AI app to list what's in a folder on one of your computers, then open Activity to see the call.

What your AI app can do on your computers

  • Read and work with files on your own machines from any AI app.
  • Run commands in a terminal on a computer that isn't the one you're chatting from.
  • Check and manage running processes.

Limits for remote access

  • Switch off the terminal or process tools and they're hidden from your AI app and refused if called.
  • Policies check every call, so a secret read from a file can be blocked before it reaches the chat.
  • Activity keeps a record of every call, so each command run on your computers can be traced.

Desktop Commander describes its remote MCP server as a beta.
