Locize MCP: translation management with full context

Read and update translations in your Locize projects from your AI app, with the glossary, style guide, translation memory and screenshots as context so wording stays consistent. ContextGate connects Locize's MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor; switch off the update tools if translators, not AI apps, should change live strings.

  1. 1Click Connect Locize free and sign in to Locize.
  2. 2All tools are on after connecting, and the full list shows up then. Keep the read tools for checking strings, and switch off the update tools if new translations should go through your translators.
  3. 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
  4. 4Ask your AI app how the checkout button is translated into German in your Locize project, then open Activity to see the call.

Translation work with Locize

  • Look up existing translations while you write UI code in Cursor.
  • Update translations using your glossary and style guide so terms stay consistent.
  • Draw on translation memory to reuse approved wording.
  • Give your AI app screenshot context so it knows where a string appears.

Guard your strings

  • Switch off the update tools and your AI app can't change translations.
  • A policy can warn or block before a translation is updated.
  • Activity records every read and update.

What you get with Locize and ContextGate

  • Your AI apps can use LocizeClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach Locize through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
  • You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any Locize tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
  • Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.

ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
