Mural MCP: read and add to shared boards from your AI app
Mural MCP lets your AI app read and write on your Mural boards: add sticky notes, read a board's widgets and files, and turn a sprawling discussion into something visual. ContextGate connects Mural to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, signed in with your Mural account either way, and every note an AI app adds to a shared board is recorded.

How to connect Mural to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor
- 1Click Connect Mural free and sign in with your Mural account.
- 2Every Mural tool is on to start. Shared boards are your team's space, so switch off the writing tools if your AI app should read a mural and summarize it rather than add to it.
- 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
- 4Ask your AI app to read your retro board in Mural and group the sticky notes into themes, then open Activity to see the calls.
Workshop work with Mural from a chat
- Read every widget on a mural to summarize a workshop or retro.
- Add one or more sticky notes to a mural, such as action items from a meeting.
- List the files attached to a mural.
- Turn a plan from a chat into a visual on a shared board.
Shared boards, controlled writes
- Switch off sticky note creation and other writes; they're hidden from your AI app and refused if called.
- Policies check every call, so personal data on a board can be hidden from the AI app.
- Activity records each Mural call, so you know which boards an AI app read or changed.
What you get with Mural and ContextGate
- Your AI apps can use MuralClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach Mural through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
- You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any Mural tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
- Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.
ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
