New Relic MCP: query observability data from your AI app
Ask what's wrong in production and let your AI app query New Relic for the answer: metrics, logs, traces and entities through New Relic's MCP server. It can also review your alert policies and conditions. ContextGate connects it to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor and lets you switch off alert policy changes, so investigating an issue doesn't rewrite your alerting.

Getting New Relic into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor
- 1Click Connect New Relic free and sign in with your New Relic account.
- 2Queries over metrics, logs and traces only read. Switch off tools that create or delete alert policies or change notification channels if alerting should stay with your on-call team.
- 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
- 4Ask your AI app for the error rate on your checkout service over the last hour, then open Activity to see the query.
Debugging with New Relic data
- Query metrics, logs and traces while you investigate an issue.
- Look up entities, applications and browser applications by name or host.
- Review alert policies and the conditions in each.
- List the channels alerts go to, such as email or webhooks.
Alerting stays as you set it
- Switch off alert policy and channel changes; they're hidden from your AI app and refused if called.
- Policies check every call and can hide personal data that turns up in logs.
- Activity keeps a record of every query your AI apps run.
What you get with New Relic and ContextGate
- Your AI apps can use New RelicClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach New Relic through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
- You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any New Relic tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
- Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.
ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
