NicheDB MCP: real-time public data and feeds for your AI app

NicheDB is an open, ever-growing database of real-time public data: sources in, enriched, feeds out. Its MCP server lets an AI app search items, see upcoming releases and launches, and follow feeds. ContextGate connects it to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor without a sign-in, so you can keep the lookups and switch off the tools that write to an account.

Hook NicheDB up to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

  1. 1Click Connect NicheDB free. There's no sign-in, so its tools are ready at once.
  2. 2Most of NicheDB's tools look things up, such as `search_items` and `upcoming`. A few act on an account, like `create_feed`, `follow_feed` and `delete_webhook`, and need a NicheDB key; switch them off if your AI app should only read.
  3. 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
  4. 4Ask your AI app what releases are coming up this month in a NicheDB collection, then look in Activity for the `upcoming` call.

Look things up in NicheDB

  • Run a full-text search over item titles, summaries and tags with `search_items`.
  • List future-dated items such as releases, launches and deadlines, soonest first, with `upcoming`.
  • Get population and demography from country level down to a US ZIP code with `population`.
  • Find where to buy a book by ISBN, or by title and author, with `where_to_buy_book`.

NicheDB's server has 42 tools; these are a few. The full list appears in ContextGate as soon as you add it.

Decide what NicheDB can change

  • Switch off `create_webhook`, `update_webhook` and `delete_webhook`, and your AI app can't touch your account's webhook endpoints.
  • Switch off `create_feed` and `follow_feed` if feeds should only be set up by a person.
  • Activity records every NicheDB call, lookups and account changes alike.

What you get with NicheDB and ContextGate

  • Your AI apps can use NicheDBClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach NicheDB through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
  • You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any NicheDB tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
  • Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.

ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
