WikiOO MCP: an art encyclopedia inside your AI app

Getting WikiOO into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

1. 1Click Connect WikiOO free. There's no sign-in, so its tools are ready at once.
2. 2Most tools search and describe artworks, artists, museums and articles. Three price or sell reproductions: `get_a_quotation`, `get_a_custom_reproduction_quotation` and `get_artwork_availability`. Switch those off if you're using WikiOO for research only.
3. 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
4. 4Ask your AI app for painters born in Spain who were alive in 1900, then open Activity to see the `search_artists` call.

Art research with WikiOO from Claude or ChatGPT

• Find artists by name or biography with `search_artists`, narrowed by birth city or country and by a year they were alive.
• Search museums by name, city and country with `search_museums`, then read the full entry with `get_detail_museum`.
• Ask a question in plain words and get the encyclopedia sections that answer it with `search_sections_semantically`.
• Pull the full record for one artwork, including its description, with `get_detail_artwork`.

Research only, if that's what you want

• Switch off the three pricing tools and WikiOO stays an encyclopedia; they're hidden from your AI app and refused if called.
• Activity keeps a record of each search, handy when you need to show where an answer came from.

What you get with WikiOO and ContextGate

• Your AI apps can use WikiOOClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach WikiOO through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
• You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any WikiOO tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
