Shotstack MCP: video editing and rendering from a chat
Describe a video and have Claude or ChatGPT build and render it through the Shotstack video editing API. Shotstack's MCP server generates, edits and renders videos, so you don't write the API calls yourself. ContextGate connects it to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor and records every render your AI app asks for.

How to connect Shotstack to your AI app
- 1Click Connect Shotstack free and sign in with your Shotstack account.
- 2You'll see Shotstack's tool list once connected, with every tool on. Keep the ones for building and checking renders, and switch off any you don't want an AI app to run.
- 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
- 4Ask your AI app to render a short video from a few clips with a title card, then open Activity to see the render request.
Video work you can describe instead of code
- Generate a video from a description instead of writing Shotstack API calls.
- Edit an existing video and render the result in the cloud.
- Produce videos, images and audio at scale from the same chat.
The full list of Shotstack tools appears in ContextGate after you connect.
Renders on record
- Switch off any Shotstack tool you don't need; it's hidden from your AI app and refused if called.
- Policies check every call, for example to block an API key or other secret in a request.
- Activity records every render request your team's AI apps send to Shotstack.
What you get with Shotstack and ContextGate
- Your AI apps can use ShotstackClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach Shotstack through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
- You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any Shotstack tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
- Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.
ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
