who.is MCP: WHOIS, DNS and certificate history in your AI app

Who registered a domain, where do its nameservers point, and which TLS certificates has it had? The who.is MCP server answers from parsed WHOIS, normalized RDAP, DNS and certificate history for any domain. ContextGate connects it to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor with the API key from your who.is account, and records each domain lookup in Activity.

How to connect who.is to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

  1. 1Click Connect who.is free and paste an API key from your who.is account.
  2. 2Every tool is on after you connect, and the list shows up then. These are domain lookups rather than changes, so most teams keep them; switch off the history tools if current records are all you need.
  3. 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
  4. 4Ask your AI app when a domain's TLS certificate last changed and which nameservers it uses, then open Activity to see the who.is calls.

Domain research from Claude or Cursor

  • Read parsed WHOIS and normalized RDAP records for any domain.
  • Check a domain's DNS records and nameservers while you debug a deployment.
  • Look back through a domain's TLS certificate history and domain history.

Domain lookups on the record

  • Activity records every who.is lookup, so you can see which domains your team checked.
  • Switch off any who.is tool you don't need; it's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
  • Policies check each call, for example blocking a lookup that includes an internal hostname.
