monday.com MCP: update boards and items from your AI app

Through MCP, your AI app can work on monday.com boards: create items and set column values, move items between groups, add columns and groups, and add people to a board. ContextGate connects monday.com to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, signed in with your monday.com account either way, and the tools that permanently delete items, groups or columns can be switched off.

Connect monday.com to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

  1. 1Click Connect Monday free and sign in with your monday.com account.
  2. 2Your AI app can use every monday.com tool from the start. Deleting an item, group or column can't be undone through monday.com's API, so switch those tools off and keep archive, which can usually be restored.
  3. 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
  4. 4Ask your AI app to create an item on your sprint board and set its status column, then open Activity to see both calls.

Board updates Claude or ChatGPT can make

  • Create items on a board, assign them to a group and fill in column values in one step.
  • Change a status, text or dropdown column, adding a new label if it doesn't exist yet.
  • Move items between groups, or duplicate an item along with its updates.
  • Create boards, groups and columns, and add users to a board with a role.

Keep boards recoverable

  • Switch off delete for items, groups and columns, and your AI app is left with archive, which can typically be restored later.
  • Add a policy that warns before your AI app adds users to a board, so access changes get a second look.
  • Activity records each monday.com call, so you can trace which item an AI app changed.

What you get with Monday and ContextGate

  • Your AI apps can use MondayClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach Monday through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
  • You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any Monday tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
  • Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.

ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
