Neon MCP: branch and manage serverless Postgres from your AI app
Spin up Neon projects and branches from a chat: your AI app can add databases and roles to a branch, create compute endpoints and manage API keys. ContextGate connects Neon to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor through Neon's own MCP server or an app connector that takes an API key, and the tools that delete branches, databases or whole projects can be switched off.

How to connect Neon to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor
1Click Connect Neon free and sign in with your Neon account.
2All tools are on after connecting, and you'll see the full list. Deleting a Neon project or branch permanently removes its data, so switch off those delete tools, along with the ones that remove members or API keys, unless your AI app needs them.
3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
4Ask your AI app to create a branch in one of your Neon projects for testing a migration, then open Activity to see the call.
Postgres chores to hand to Claude or Cursor
Create a branch from a parent branch, with or without its own compute endpoint, to try out a change.
Add a database or a role to a branch, with the owner you choose.
Create a project with the settings you need, or look up an existing project's configuration.
Give a teammate's email address access to a project.
Create API keys for your organization, or revoke one that's no longer needed.
Keep Neon data where it is
Switch off the tools that delete projects, branches, databases or roles; your AI app stops seeing them, and a call to one is refused.
Policies check every call and can block secrets, such as a database password, from passing through.
Activity keeps a record of every Neon call, so you can see which call removed a branch and when.
What you get with Neon and ContextGate
Your AI apps can use NeonClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach Neon through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any Neon tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.
ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
