Prisma MCP: manage Prisma Postgres from Claude or Cursor
Prisma's MCP server lets your AI app manage Prisma Postgres databases and existing Prisma Compute apps: create databases, inspect schemas, run SQL and restore backups. It doesn't upload code. ContextGate connects it to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, where you can keep SQL read-only and switch off the tools that delete a database or project.

Connect Prisma to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor
1Click Connect Prisma free and sign in with your Prisma account.
2A read-only SQL query is safe. SQL commands change data, deleting a database destroys it, and transferring a project hands it to someone else, so switch those off and keep the query and schema tools.
3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
4In Cursor, ask for the schema of your Prisma Postgres database and a row count for one table, then open Activity to see the queries.
Database work from Claude or Cursor
List workspaces, projects and databases, and inspect a database's tables, columns and relationships.
Run read-only SQL queries for analysis, or SQL commands that change data.
Create a project or database in a region, plus connection strings for your app.
List backups and restore one into a new database.
Keep production data safe
Switch off the SQL command tool so your AI app can query but not change data.
Switch off the delete and transfer tools; a deleted database is gone for good, and a transferred project leaves your hands.
Policies can hide personal data in query results, and Activity records every SQL statement your AI apps ran.
What you get with Prisma and ContextGate
Your AI apps can use PrismaClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach Prisma through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any Prisma tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.
ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
