Upstash MCP: manage and debug Upstash resources from your IDE

Upstash's hosted MCP server lets your AI app manage and debug your Upstash resources across Redis, QStash, Workflow, Vector, Search, Box and Blob. Ask Cursor why a QStash message didn't deliver, or check a Redis database while you code. ContextGate connects it to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor and records every call, including changes to production resources.

Connect Upstash to Cursor, Claude Code or ChatGPT

  1. 1Click Connect Upstash free and sign in with your Upstash account.
  2. 2Near production, the risky calls are the ones that delete databases or flush data. Every tool starts on; keep read and debugging tools and switch off anything destructive.
  3. 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
  4. 4Ask your AI app to list your Upstash Redis databases and check one for problems, then open Activity to see the calls.

Upstash work without the console

  • Inspect a Redis database while you debug the code that uses it.
  • Look into QStash messages and Workflow runs when something didn't fire.
  • Manage Vector and Search resources from Cursor or Claude Code.
  • Work with Upstash Box and Blob in the same chat.

Protect production data

  • Switch off destructive Upstash tools; they're hidden from your AI app and refused if called.
  • A policy can block secrets, like a Redis password in a prompt, from going out.
  • Activity records every call, so a change to a resource can be traced to the agent that made it.

What you get with Upstash and ContextGate

  • Your AI apps can use UpstashClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach Upstash through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
  • You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any Upstash tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
  • Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.

ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.

Upstash tools

Upstash's own MCP server shows its tools once you sign in. When you connect it, they are listed and synced in your workspace.
