Val Town MCP: ship serverless TypeScript from your AI app

Val Town runs serverless TypeScript, and its MCP server lets your AI app deploy it: HTTP vals, cron jobs, SQLite storage, email and OAuth. Describe a small webhook or scheduled task and Claude Code or Cursor can have it live on Val Town. ContextGate connects it and records every deploy, so code your agent ships is traceable.

Connect Val Town to Claude Code, Cursor or ChatGPT

  1. 1Click Connect Val Town free and sign in with your Val Town account.
  2. 2Writing and reading vals is low risk; deploys and email reach the outside world. All tools start on, so switch off deploy or email tools if code should only go live after a person reviews it.
  3. 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
  4. 4Ask your AI app to deploy an HTTP val on Val Town that returns the current time as JSON, then open Activity to see the deploy call.

Things to build on Val Town from a prompt

  • Deploy an HTTP val as a quick API endpoint or webhook.
  • Schedule a cron val for a recurring job.
  • Store data in SQLite from the same val.
  • Send email or add OAuth sign-in to a small app.

Deploys you can trace

  • Activity records every deploy your coding agent makes to Val Town.
  • A policy can block API keys and other secrets from being written into a val's code.
  • Switch off any Val Town tool and your AI app can't see or call it.

What you get with Val Town and ContextGate

  • Your AI apps can use Val TownClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach Val Town through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
  • You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any Val Town tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
  • Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.

ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
