IPinfo MCP: IP geolocation and privacy flags in your AI app

Where is this IP address, which network and company own it, and is it a VPN, proxy or Tor address? IPinfo's MCP server answers in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, so you can paste IPs from a log instead of calling the IPinfo API. ContextGate connects it, so an incident write-up can point to every lookup in Activity.

How to connect IPinfo to your AI app

  1. 1Click Connect IPinfo free and sign in to IPinfo.
  2. 2IPinfo's tools only look things up, so the choice is about scope: switch off the batch lookups if you don't want an AI app sending a thousand addresses at once.
  3. 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
  4. 4Paste a suspicious IP from your server logs and ask whether it's a VPN or hosting address, then open Activity to see the lookup.

IP questions you can ask Claude or Cursor

  • Get an IP's geolocation, ASN and network flags, or your own with 'me'.
  • Check whether an IP is a VPN, proxy, Tor, relay or hosting address.
  • Find the company, mobile carrier or abuse contact behind an IP.
  • Look up as many as 1,000 IPs in one batch.

IP data with a record

  • Switch off batch lookups and keep single-IP checks.
  • A policy can block secrets, so an API key pasted along with log lines doesn't reach IPinfo.
  • Activity records every lookup, which helps when you write up an incident later.

What you get with IPinfo and ContextGate

  • Your AI apps can use IPinfoClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach IPinfo through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
  • You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any IPinfo tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
  • Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.

ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
