Postman MCP: build collections and mocks from your AI app

Build out your API work in Postman from a chat: your AI app can create collections, folders and requests, save example responses, set up environments, mock servers and monitors, and fork a collection to open a pull request. ContextGate connects Postman to Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor through Postman's own MCP server or an API-key app connector, and keeps each change in Activity.

Add Postman to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

  1. 1Click Connect Postman free and sign in with your Postman account.
  2. 2Every tool is on when you connect. Keep the ones that create requests and collections in your own workspace; switch off monitors and pull requests if you don't want your AI app scheduling collection runs or proposing merges into shared collections.
  3. 3Add ContextGate to your AI app as a connector or MCP server. The steps for each app are on the Works with page.
  4. 4Ask your AI app to add a request for your login endpoint to a Postman collection, with a saved example response, then open Activity to see both calls.

API work Claude or Cursor can do in Postman

  • Create a collection in a chosen workspace, add folders, and fill it with requests including method, URL, headers and body.
  • Save example responses on a request so the collection shows what the API returns.
  • Create a mock server from a collection to simulate endpoints while the real API is still being built.
  • Set up environments with variables for development and production, and add a monitor to run a collection on a schedule.
  • Fork a collection, then open a pull request to merge your changes back into the parent.

Review before shared collections change

  • Switch off tools such as forks, pull requests or monitors; they disappear from your AI app and are refused if called.
  • Policies check every call, so an API key typed into a request header can be blocked before it lands in a shared collection.
  • Activity records every Postman call your team's AI apps make, including comments left on collections and requests.

What you get with Postman and ContextGate

  • Your AI apps can use PostmanClaude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI apps reach Postman through the one ContextGate connection you add to them.
  • You choose which tools they can useSwitch off any Postman tool you don't want used. It's hidden from your AI apps and refused if called.
  • Every call is checked and recordedYour policies check each call (for example, personal data is hidden and secrets are blocked), and Activity keeps a record of it.

ContextGate sees only the tool calls that go through it, not your AI app's built-in tools or your chats.
